When planning and building accommodation, ensure that:
- It is built with the necessary permission from the relevant authorities and complies fully with the Wildlife Protection Act, Forest Conservation Act and Environmental Protection Act. It must also be in agreement with local communities and in no way should it result in the relocation of indigenous peoples.
- It is constructed in keeping with the surrounding environment and within the architectural norms of the area.
- It does not encroach into National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries and is constructed outside the Indian Board for Wildlife recommended eco-fragile zone (10km from the boundary) of any protected area.
- It will operate within the national laws applicable to wildlife, forests and the environment.
- Local personnel and artisans are used in its construction and maintenance, being trained where necessary.
- Only legally acquired and, wherever possible, locally produced or sustainably harvested materials are used for construction and maintenance.
- It does not exceed the size and carrying capacity of the local infrastructure and will not result in excessive tourism traffic in the neighbouring National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries.
- Mechanisms and infrastructure are installed to increase the harvest of rainwater and minimise the extraction of water and energy that is detrimental to local communities and the watershed forest.
- Efforts are made through the building of traditional water harvesting structures to provide additional water for local communities.
- Provisions are made for the appropriate recycling of water and disposal of waste.
- Careful consideration and planning is made for substantial employment opportunities for local people within accommodation services.
